Abstract
This Master's thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of the vocal and dramaturgical characteristics of the baritone role within the bel canto aesthetics, focusing on the character of Doctor Malatesta in G. Donizetti’s opera "Don Pasquale". The study traces the evolution of the composer's operatic style and examines the hybridization of the carattere and buffo voice types. It highlights Malatesta's functional significance as the central coordinator and internal "director" of the plot's intrigue. Based on a comparative analysis of interpretations by leading baritones (T. Gobbi, S. Bruscantini, T. Hampson, G. Viviani, M. Werba, etc.), the study outlines the transformation of the role from classic buffoonery to postmodern stage directors' concept.
